Allen Recognizes Award Recipients in the House of Commons
October 02, 2009
OTTAWA – Tobique-Mactaquac MP Mike Allen rose in the House of Commons on Monday, Sept. 26, to recognize three residents of the constituency who recently received prestigious awards. Mr. Allen spoke of attending the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Awards and Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Ceremonies during the summer break, at which Paul Hanson and Romeo Lafrance received Caring Canadian Awards and Allison MacEacheron received a Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. “Mr. Hanson was honoured for his tremendous service to community, the Salvation Army, his parish and to Veterans,” said the Chair of the Atlantic Conservative Caucus. “Mr. Lafrance was honoured for long-time service to the Grand Falls Region and to people with intellectual disabilities.” He also explained that Miss MacEacheron received her Gold Award based on activities, such as recreation, individual skills development, adventurous journey and community service, which occurred in the form of volunteering at York Manor. Mr. Allen commented that the ceremony held in Moncton reinforces the unselfish dedication of the people who give of their time and efforts to make our communities better places to live. “What is also heartening is the young people who are coming along, and through the Duke of Edinburgh awards, are developing the sense of service to community,” he said. “I want to say congratulations again to all those who received awards and express my heartfelt thanks for making a difference in the lives of others.” |
