Edmundston Issues on National Stage
January 15, 2009
MP Mike Allen Hosts Roundtable in Edmundston on Behalf of Natural Resources Minister to Hear Views on Upcoming Budget Edmundston – Building on the Conservative Government’s commitment to those Canadian workers, families and communities who are facing difficulties as a result of the global economic slowdown, Conservative MP Mike Allen, on behalf of Natural Resource Minister Lisa Raitt, hosted a roundtable on natural resources in Edmundston today. “We know that the success of the forest industry is very important to communities like Edmundston,” said Allen. “That’s why the Minister of Natural Resources has asked me to hold meetings across New Brunswick, including today’s in Edmundston, to hear how we can provide support for those families and communities who have been affected by the global downturn in this sector.” On January 27, 2009 Canadians will be presented with a Budget designed to guide Canada through these uncertain times. The roundtable in Edmundston is part of a country-wide effort to hear from those Canadians who are feeling first-hand the effects of slowdowns in the forestry, mining and energy sectors and solicit their views on what they would like to see in the Budget. “We know that workers and families in Edmundston are feeling the effects of the global slowdown in natural resource industries, like forestry. Helping communities like Edmundston was one of the reasons Prime Minister Harper created the Community Development Trust – an announcement which was made in New Brunswick,” said Allen. “Today’s meeting was an opportunity for workers and families to share their views on what they’d like to see in the coming Budget. It’s the next step in ensuring our Government continues to deliver for workers and families across New Brunswick.” |
