FLORENCEVILLE-BRISTOL OPENS NEW BOARDWALK
July 01, 2008
![]() FLORENCEVILLE-BRISTOL – The Town of Florenceville-Bristol celebrated the official opening of its new boardwalk today, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada. Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac and Florenceville-Bristol Mayor Darrell Giggie gathered today to officially open the new boardwalk as part of the community’s Canada Day celebrations. “Our government is committed to supporting projects that build on community strengths and enhance long-term opportunities for residents,” said MP Allen, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “Through ACOA, our investment of more than $1.6 million has assisted in building this boardwalk, which will help to showcase the Town of Florenceville-Bristol and complement local tourism attractions in the area.” “As Mayor of the New Town of Florenceville-Bristol I would like to thank the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency for their investment in our Town,” said Mayor Giggie. “The new boardwalk will add to the accomplishments and tourism development that has been completed in the area over the last two years. Our Town is committed to continued and sustainable development and attracting business and tourism to the area.” The new boardwalk will provide a natural one-kilometre walking loop that will increase traffic and business in the downtown area. The walking and jogging trail loops and access routes will encourage visitors and residents to actively explore the whole village while directing the visitors to points of interest in the region, such as the Potato Museum and Shogomoc Railway. The Government of Canada has invested $1,629,360 through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, while the Village of Florenceville provided $406,965 to complete the project. |
