PERTH-ANDOVER, New Brunswick – This summer, residents of the Carleton–Victoria area will be able to enjoy a series of concerts in various styles of music, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada.

Mike Allen, Member of Parliament (Tobique–Mactaquac), on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minster of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, today announced funding for the Carleton–Victoria Arts Council.

Funding of $8,000 will help the Carleton–Victoria Arts Council produce its 2008–2009 programming. During its 30th season, the Council will feature a series of concerts in various genres, including folk, world, and popular music. It will also organize outreach activities in several schools.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to support the Carleton–Victoria Arts Council in its efforts to present artists from across Canada and allow local residents to discover new talent,” said Minister Verner. “We applaud the Council’s longstanding commitment to increasing access to the arts in their community.”

“This funding is important for the cultural life of the Carleton–Victoria area,” said Mr. Allen.
“I am delighted that our Government supports this organization, which has been active in presenting diverse cultural activities to this rural area for the past 30 years.”

“The support from Canadian Heritage allows the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council to continue to offer, for the 30th season, professional performers from across Canada to rural audiences,” said Peter McLaughlin, President of the Carleton-Victoria Arts Council. “This year’s funding will allow us to celebrate our 30th anniversary with some of the finest Canadian performers available.”

Founded in 1979, the Carleton–Victoria Arts Council presents artistic performances from different provinces and promotes cultural experiences between professional artists and audiences in rural western New Brunswick. In 2007, it was awarded the Contact East Community Presenter’s Award in recognition of its excellence and achievement.

The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
