Prepare For 2009 Festivals and Community Anniversaries
April 22, 2008
TOBIQUE-MACTAQUAC – Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac, reminds local groups of the application deadlines for funding festival and community anniversaries taking place next year. “I want to make sure that no one misses out on the funding they need to hold local festivals and celebrations in 2009,” Mr. Allen said. “These events are a highlight of our communities and folks look forward to taking part and watching everything from parades and beauty pageants to cultural games and musical performances.” For projects taking place between Jan. 1 and May 31, 2009, the deadline to apply for funds through Building Communities through Arts and Heritage is June 30, 2008. For projects being held between June 1 and Dec. 31, 2009, the deadline is Nov. 30, 2008. This applies to both components of the program – Local Arts and Heritage Festivals and Community Historical Anniversaries. Those who can apply for funding include local non-profit incorporated organizations, groups that are not legally incorporated, Band Councils, Tribal Councils and other Aboriginal governments. Applicants must have written confirmation of financial or in-kind support from their municipal government or equivalent authority. For Local Arts and Heritage Festivals, applicants must have already completed one eligible activity within the last two years. For Community Historical Anniversaries Programming, the anniversary must be at least the 100th or more, in increments of 25 years.
