Apply Now For Seniors Program Funding
April 14, 2008
TOBIQUE-MACTAQUAC – The Government of Canada has further shown its commitment to senior citizens by making $19.5 million in funding available in the latest Call for Applications under the New Horizons for Seniors Program. Funding is available across Canada, under the Community Participation and Leadership component, to support local projects by non-profit organizations that encourage seniors to contribute to their communities and improve their social well-being. The deadline to apply is June 13, 2008, and Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac, encourages all eligible groups to submit their applications in plenty of time. “This part of New Horizons is the cornerstone of the program since it funds projects that encourage our seniors to play an active role in the community by helping those in need,” said Mr. Allen. “Projects where seniors provide leadership and share their knowledge and skills with others are also part of this program. “If it wasn’t for our seniors, Canada would not be the great country that it is today,” he continued. “That’s why we are investing in them – to make sure they are able to continue to make this country a better place.” For applications or more information on New Horizons for Seniors, visit the Web site: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/community_partnerships/seniors/index.shtml. Interested groups may also call toll free 1-800-277-9914 for service in English or 1-800-277-9915 for service in French and select “0” to speak with an agent Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The New Horizons for Seniors Programs supports local projects across Canada that encourage seniors to contribute to their communities through social participation and active living. |
