Allen Encourages Everyone to be Aware of Potential Tax Deductions
March 17, 2009
TOBIQUE-MACTAQUAC – As residents of Tobique-Mactaquac, and Canadians in general, prepare their tax returns, MP Mike Allen wants to be sure everyone takes advantage of all tax deductions available to them.

“Whether you look after your own return or have a tax specialist help you out, it’s important to know about all the tax measures our government has available for the 2008 taxation year,” says the Chair of the Atlantic Conservative Caucus.

“Since 2006, we have introduced almost $200 billion in individual, small business and corporate tax relief,” says Mr. Allen. “I know it is often hard to keep up with all of the changes.”

For this reason, a tax brochure is currently available in both English and French on Mr. Allen’s Website, www.mikeallen.ca, as well as in the Grand Falls, Woodstock and Keswick offices. “We hope this will be a helpful guide when people prepare their 2008 personal tax returns,” he said.

“I also want to remind people of a very important deduction available to them when they file next year,” Mr. Allen said.

This is the Home Renovation Tax Credit, which allows home and cottage owners to claim everything from house paint and driveway paving to insulation and new kitchen cabinets. “Make sure you save all your receipts, so you can take advantage of some extra savings next year.”

Everyone is encouraged to visit the Website and click on “Are You Paying Too Much Tax?”, or drop into one of the constituency offices for a copy of the brochure.
